System Complaints

Complaint or Symptom:

Misfire, rough running, smoke, low power, poor starting.  Typically no codes are reported, but they may experience Diagnostic Trouble Codes 65x.07 or 1347.07.

Problem:

Leakage, contamination, or other deposit build up in the high pressure common rail fuel system is preventing optimized combustion due to sticking or sluggish components.

Solution:

Step 1: Using Service Advisor, our diagnostic labtop computer, check for diagnostic trouble codes (DTC).  Record all stored and active codes.  Clear all codes.  Run the engine and check for active codes.  The tech will use the stored code information for reference/history and diagnose the active codes and then repair as needed.  If no electronic problems can be found then go to step 2.

Step 2: Perform a cutout, misfire, and compression test to determine if a single cylinder or injector can be identified.  If one or more injector appears to not perform properly, proceed to step 3 of this solution before replacing the injector(s).

Step 3: Flush fuel system with the John Deere Fuel Injector Flush Tool and Cleaner.

Complaint or Symptom:

Scalpers and/or Rowfinders are damaged while putting tractor in reverse.

Problem:

Reverse operations while scalpers or lifter is in the down postition damage implements causing unnecessary downtime.

Solution:

Crookston Implement John Deere Dr.s have a Reverse Lockout Kit that will prevent reverse operations by placing a switch on the implement sensing that function’s operation.  Eliminating reverse operations until the cylinder is lifted will save possibly thousands of dollars in maintenance and downtime and keep everyone efficient.  Talk to Todd about scheduling a reverse lockout installation today.  Price with installation and parts is $639, price is good until October 2011.

Complaint or Symptom:

AutoTrac proportional Valve Electronic (PVE) may fail causing AutoTrac to not function.  Tractor may display the following SSu codes: 111, 182, 522387.07, or 523795.12.  9000 Series tractors may experience erratic or jerky steering.

Solution:

Install new AutoTrac Valve (PVE) correct this issue.

This product improvement addresses factory and field installed AutoTrac tractors.  This is a Shared-Cost program through John Deere that will pay full or partial parts and/or labor costs depending on the year and hour reading on the tractor.  This is a time dependent solution, by calling early, you may be able to avoid higher repair costs.  Again, this effects Large-Frame 7000, 8000, and 9000 series AutoTrac Tractors.

Call soon to setup an appointmant for repair; parts may be in short supply this Spring.

Complaint or Symptom:

Lifter and Topper PTO shafts vibrate too much causing operator disccomfort.  Swappable PTO shafts are splined together with slight movement even with new components.

Solution:

Swappable PTO shafts have slight bit movement new out of the factory and when you add the weight of a constant velocity PTO shaft, the shaft will swing causing vibration.  The longer it vibrates the worse it will get.  The vibrations will wear out the splines and eventually strip the shaft and/or the socket.

The repair for this is changing from swappable 1000 RPM and 540 RPM PTO shafts to the solid 1 3/4 inch 1000 RPM PTO shaft.

We will replace your PTO Housing and shafts for $225 in labor.  If your swappable parts are in good shape the parts cost is minimal, so basically we will just swap housings.  However if your parts are worn, the parts will need to be replaced, because we will be giving you a good usable shaft in place of your swappable shaft.  The 1 3/4 inch solid shaft virtually eliminates the vibrations from the PTO constant velocity powershafts.

Complaint or Symptom:

Variable speed belts breaking or burning prematurely, bearings, brushings on shafts failing on the primary countershaft, or intermediate countershaft.

Problem:

Slugs entering cylinder and concave damage variable speed parts causing belts to burn or break prematurely.  Slugs can damage more than just belts, which can cause repeat failures.  Possible damage would be: broken cams, worn bushings, and gummed up grease in the intermediate sheave assembly.  Primary gear box counter shaft failues could also result from slugging.

Solution:

Have a CIC Deere Dr. inspect your combine variable speed sheaves, primary countershaft, and cylinder drives for possible problems and prevent downtime during the critical harvest season.

New primary countershaft parts and labor for replacing the primary countershaft is $3999 on 9600 combine.  Rebuilding intermediate countershaft assembly with new cams, parts and labor as low as $1,599.

Combine separator inspection 225 pts for $399.
